Coop Sweden Introduces Voice-Controlled Shopping List

Coop Sweden has introduced a new feature to its mobile app that allows customers to create a shopping list using their voice.

The retailer says that the voice-controlled list is easy to use. Customers open the shopping-list section in their app, click on the microphone and start talking, specifying what they want to buy and the quantity thereof.

It is also possible to share the list with other people, who can then add or remove items.

“Our digital services will make it easier for our customers in their everyday lives,” said Henrik Staaf, head of digital communications at Coop Sweden.

“I am glad that Coop will be the first with a voice-controlled food-shopping list in Sweden,” Staaf continued.

The new app feature is now available on iOS, and it will be introduced to Android devices in the New Year.

Coop’s shopping app was first launched in 2004 and includes a range of features, such as personalised offers and recipes.

Voice Tech

Elsewhere, a number of other food retailers are also looking to voice-activated technology as a way of enhancing shopping services.

In August, US retail giant Walmart announced that it was teaming up with Google to let shoppers order by voice, while UK retailers Ocado and Morrisons have introduced a similar voice-ordering service using Amazon's Alexa voice-recognition programme.
