Spanish retailer El Corte Inglés has announced that its collaboration with the Samsung Pay mobile payment system has seen as many as 100,000 transactions since it was launched in July 2017.
The payment system uses El Corte Inglés' purchase card, and allows users pay for goods with store credit through their Samsung phones at all of the retailer’s stores.
Out of all transactions made with Samsung Pay by customers at El Corte Inglés stores, 84% used the purchase card system, according to the retailer.
Popular Purchase Card
With over 11 million users, the El Corte Inglés purchase card is one of the most popular of its kind in the Spanish retail market, according to the company.
The average profile of the consumer using this system is between 35 and 55 years old and has had an El Corte Inglés card for over ten years, the retailer said.
Most users are located in the major Spanish cities, with the largest numbers in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville, it said.
The retailer said that its cooperation with Samsung forms part of its strategy for technological innovation and customer service.
In 2016, it extended its Click&Express quick delivery online shopping service to a total of 37 cities, covering a population of about 16 million people.
Previously, the retailer collaborated with Samsung among others to unveil its first Virtual Reality space in the Sanchinarro shopping centre, in Madrid, with a large area of VR experiences for teenagers and adults.
