General Mills Announces Second Edition Of Feeding Better Futures Scholars Programme

General Mills has launched the second edition of its 'Feeding Better Futures' Scholars Programme.

The programme encourages young innovators in North America to submit ideas to tackle problems related to hunger, food waste, and sustainable agriculture.

The winner will be awarded $50,000 to develop their concept, along with industry mentorship and exposure at the Aspen Ideas Festival.

'Feeding Future Generations'

Chairman and CEO of General Mills, Jeff Harmening, said, "Feeding future generations sustainably is a complicated problem, and we recognise the need to find solutions now.

"As a global food leader for over 150 years, we're proud of our efforts to alleviate hunger and promote environmentally-responsible practices across our supply chain, but we can't solve these issues alone."

Food Production Estimates

According to recent estimates, food production needs to increase by 70% to feed the world's growing population, which is projected to surpass nine billion by 2050.

Applicants aged 13-21 can submit their applications highlighting the impact of their ideas in their community, through a video or a series of photographs, to the programme's website by 26 February.

General Mills will announce the names of three finalists in April of this year.

Last year, 19-year-old Katie Stagliano emerged winner with her innovative idea to empower youth to grow vegetable gardens, and donate the harvest to people in need.
