GFSI Appoints Erica Sheward As New Director

The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) has announced the appointment of Erica Sheward as its new director.

In her role, she will be responsible for expanding and strengthening GFSI’s ability to lead food safety advancements at a global level.

Commenting on her appointment, Sheward, said, "It is an absolute privilege and a pleasure to have been invited to take up such an incredible role.

"Ensuring food safety is one of the most important issues facing the world today and it is only by working together that we can hope to achieve safe food for consumers everywhere."

An Experienced Professional

Sheward has more than 20 years of experience in the food safety industry, serving in academia as well as the public sector.

Most recently, she was a senior executive at Leatherhead Food Research, a part of the food and beverage consultancy business, Science Group.

Before joining Leatherhead Food Research, Sheward spent six years at two UK universities as a food safety specialist.

She spent the following five years at the UK Government’s ‘Office for Product Safety and Standards’.

The managing director of the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), Peter Freedman, said, "I am delighted to welcome Erica as the new GFSI director and as a member of the CGF’s senior leadership team.

GFSI, powered by the CGF, brings together key actors of the food industry to drive continuous improvement in food safety management systems around the world.
