Just Eat Takeaway To Reorganise In Britain, Cut 170 Jobs Globally

Online meal ordering and delivery company Just Eat Takeaway has announced a reorganisation of its customer service operations, which a spokesperson said could lead to 170 job losses globally.

The company said in a statement it would close a customer service centre in Borehamwood, England, and employees would be offered a chance to work instead in Sunderland, some 300 miles (480 km) to the north.

"We are grateful to all our staff in Borehamwood ... and we are committed to fully supporting all affected staff."

The news was first reported by Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad, citing an internal company memo.

The reorganisation was essential and would help the company 'on the way to profitability', the paper cited the memo as saying.

Third-Quarter Performance

Last month, the meal delivery company said it made an underlying quarterly profit earlier than expected as efforts to cut delivery and operating expenses offset falling orders.

The total value of orders, known as gross transaction value (GTV), a common measure for e-commerce companies, rose 2% in the quarter, reflecting higher prices on menus, but the number of orders weakened, in line with analysts' expectations.

Recently, the company announced a European partnership with online grocer Getir.

Under the partnership, Getir's groceries will be listed on Just Eat Takeaway's platform and can be ordered via its smartphone app but will be delivered by Getir couriers.
