US supermarket chain Kroger has teamed up with technology giant Microsoft to transform customer experiences through digital innovation.
The retailer will introduce digital display solutions to shelves that will indicate product prices, promotions, and nutritional and dietary information.
Commenting on the new partnership, Kroger's chairman and chief executive, Rodney McMullen, said, "Kroger is building a seamless ecosystem driven by data and technology to provide our customers with personalised food inspiration.
"We are identifying partners through Restock Kroger, who will help us reinvent the customer experience and create new profit streams that will also accelerate our core business growth."
New Customer Experiences
Kroger's technology team has developed a RaaS (Retail as a Service) product, powered by the cloud platform Microsoft Azure, that will help in creating new customer experiences, enable higher levels of personalisation through insights, and improve the productivity of store employees, the retailer said.
The pilot project will be carried out in two Kroger stores in Monroe in Ohio and in Redmond in Washington.
Redefining Shopping Experience
"Our partnership brings together Kroger's world-class expertise in the grocery industry with the power of Azure and Azure AI," commented Microsoft's Satya Nadella.
"Together, we will redefine the shopping experience for millions of customers at both Kroger and other retailers around the world, setting a new standard for innovation in the industry."
