Maxima Latvia Announces Departure Of Chief Corporate Officer

Maxima Latvia has announced that its board member and chief corporate officer, Jānis Vanags, has resigned from the group.

The retailer is one of the largest operating in Latvia, managing 176 stores across the country.

Leadership Team

Jānis Vanags joined Maxima Latvia in early 2018 as a board member and chief corporate officer and remained in the company’s leadership as the board underwent structural changes in 2020, re-emerging as a strengthened management team.

He has more than 10 years of experience in management positions in the service, retail, and aviation industries, operating across 30+ markets in Europe, CIS, and the Middle East.

Commenting on his departure, Tomas Rupšys, CEO and board member, Maxima Latvia, said “I am sincerely grateful to Janis Vanags for his effort and dedication to driving changes and initiatives that bring value for the customers, company employees and supports wellbeing of Latvian families and society in general.

"We are proud that our industry is able to attract the right professionals at the right time. Nevertheless, I respect Mr. Vanags’ ambition to go further and explore new opportunities and I wish the best of luck in his future endeavours.”

Other Duties

Alongside his role with Maxima, Vanags also worked as a consultant and trainer on corporate affairs and emergency management for major international organisations and companies in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

“I was privileged at Maxima to have excellent teams, resources and support from my colleagues, allowing me to drive change and bring in world-class expertise," Vanags commented.

"At the same time, I am very conscious that I am surrounded by many extremely talented and capable professionals, and if they are to grow and realise their full potential I have to create the space to allow them to do so."
