Nestlé To Join The 'Race To Zero' Campaign

Nestlé has announced plans to join the ‘Race to Zero’ campaign, which will see businesses, cities, regions and investors work together to create a healthy and resilient zero-carbon recovery strategy, ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26).

Participants in the campaign are committing to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, in line with global efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Participants are required to submit an emissions’ reduction plan ahead of COP26, and include interim targets for the next 10 years.

Nestlé said that it recognises that its ability to succeed relies on system-wide changes, and urged others to do likewise.

Climate Response

The company stressed that it would make a concerted global effort to ensure the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic helped to revive economies, and enabled the world’s countries to tackle climate change at the same time.

Commenting on the initiative, Mark Schneider, CEO Nestlé, said, "We know the challenge of climate change will not wait, so neither will we. Time is of the essence, and we need quick wins in the short term to build a better future as we recover from the COVID-19 crisis.

“We will work with others and use our scale and expertise, as well as the power of our brands to drive progress.

“Building a more sustainable food system will be a core element of the solution to climate change, and we intend to play our part in making this happen," he added.
