Nestlé To Plant Three Million Trees In Malaysia By 2023

Food giant Nestlé has announced that it is to plant three million trees in Malaysia by 2023 under the Project RELeaf campaign.

The project, which will see an investment of CHF4 million, is part of the company’s broader reforestation plan.

It will help Nestlé in accelerating its pledge to address climate change and achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the company said.

'Responsible Management' Of Supply Chain

Executive vice-president Nestlé S.A. and CEO of Zone Asia, Oceania and sub-Saharan Africa, Chris Johnson, commented, ”Project RELeaf will enable us to accelerate our net-zero ambition by scaling up nature-based solutions to tackle this global climate issue.

“Planting trees in locations where Nestlé sources its ingredients is contributing to the responsible management of our supply chain. Furthermore, reforestation complements our efforts to halt deforestation in our supply chains."

Project RELeaf builds on the Kinabatangan Rileaf Project, launched by Nestlé in 2011, which helped plant one million trees in Sabah, the company added.

It will scale up Nestlé's efforts in restoring riparian and forest in locations where palm trees are grown and help create more awareness among local communities on environmental preservation.
