Ahold Delhaize has announced that its digital and e-commerce platform Peapod Digital Labs has partnered with California-based crowdsourced logistics company Deliv to offer same-day grocery delivery service.
JJ Fleeman, president of Peapod Digital Labs and chief e-commerce officer of Ahold Delhaize USA, said, “Through our relationship with Deliv, we will assist the brands as they continue to conquer the last mile, and rapidly scale same-day delivery to the benefit of millions of local brand shoppers by 2020."
Pilot Project
Initially, Deliv will support Giant's home-delivery business, which is offering one-hour delivery windows to customers residing in select zip codes in the Willow Grove area in Pennsylvania.
The retailer aims to scale up the pilot in the coming months to additional markets and to other US brands’ markets, where delivery is powered by Peapod.com.
“At Peapod Digital Labs, it is our mission to support each of Ahold Delhaize USA’s local brands in providing an industry leading omnichannel experience for their customers. This means being there for customers, anytime, anywhere – within hours,” Fleeman added.
The Process
Customers residing in Willow Grove in Pennsylvania can avail the service by placing their orders via Peapod.com and selecting the one-hour delivery option.
Giant Food Stores has also launched a grocery-pick up service from its e-commerce hub in Lancaster in Pennsylvania, through its newly launched service - Giant Direct, Powered by Peapod service.
