Discount retailer Poundland is to offer customers a 'click & collect' service in the coming months.
Shoppers will be able to order goods online and collect their purchases at a Poundland store at a time that is convenient to them.
The trial will offer a limited range of products as well as themed baskets.
Jim McCarthy, chief executive of Poundland, said the company had to respond to the trends in the market.
“There’s no doubt that click & collect is a service a lot of our customers would use,” he explained.
“The supermarkets have done a good job, but we want to find a way to utilise in a unique way.”
He added that the retailer would directly source and pick and pack baskets, and “make sure online replicates the treasure hunt feel” its customers love.
“What Poundland is good at is trialling something and then analysing the data and the accelerating growth — online won’t be any different.”
The retailer launched its transactional site in February.
