Retailer Albert Heijn Launches AR Theme Park App

Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has created a novelty promotional campaign, launching a theme park-based 'augmented reality' app and loyalty scheme on 11 February.

The new app allows fantasy fans to create interactive, augmented reality (AR) versions of seven of the fairy tales represented at the Efteling, a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kaatsheuvel, in the province of North Brabant.

The app also has a ‘360-degree' function, through which two of the theme park’s most spectacular roller coasters can be experienced in virtual reality from the safety of an armchair.

The app is compatible with both iOS and Android-operated devices and can be activated by scanning an ‘Efteling stamp’, free to collect with every €5 worth of shopping at all Albert Heijn supermarkets.

In addition to providing access to the Efteling app, every four stamps collected will offer a €10 discount to the Efteling's entrance fee. The stamps will be valid until 11 June 2017.
