Rewe Group To Launch Mobile Payments With Yapital

Rewe Group is to introduce mobile payments at Rewe supermarkets in partnership with Cross-Channel-Payment Yapital, a subsidiary of Otto Group based in Luxembourg.

“Rewe claims to be Germany’s most innovative supermarket operator; this concerns the service as much as the product range. With mobile payment, we will be giving customers a new modern payment option,” explained Lionel Souque, member of the Rewe Group Executive Board.

If customer feedback is positive, the service will be extended to other Rewe Group sales lines.

“The cooperation between Yapital and Rewe is a breakthrough in contactless payment in offline retail and a milestone for us on our quest for ‘Everywhere Payment’. Yapital will thus become an integral part of the daily lives of its users,” said Nils Winkler, Chairman of the Board at Yapital. “Many comparisons can be drawn between Yapital and cash. With Yapital, customers can pay quickly and simply, but also safely”.

According to the retailer, paying via Yapital 'couldn't be simpler'. 'Customers just need to register once on their Smartphone or web browser and to install the free and password-protected Yapital app on their Smartphone. The customer can then just scan the QR code displayed at the point of sale using the Yapital app to register the purchase amount and to confirm the payment', the retail giant said today.
