Sainsbury’s Tests Reusable Bags For Fruit And Vegetables

UK retailer Sainsbury’s has removed plastic bags for loose fruit and vegetables in its Lincoln and Kidlington superstores.

Customers can bring their own bags or purchase a reusable drawstring bag made from 100% recycled materials for 30p.

Trial Run

The move is a part of a trial run, which will continue up to August of this year, to encourage customers to reduce, reuse, replace, and recycle more plastics.

Director of Sainsbury’s brand, Judith Batchelar, commented, "This is just one of the efforts we are making as a business, and we look forward to hearing how our customers respond and adapt throughout the trial."

Other Initiatives

Recently, Sainsbury’s launched water refill stations in more than 300 stores across the UK.

It is also testing reverse vending machines in the UK and Scotland, which allow customers to return plastic bottles and aluminium cans for recycling.
