Swiss Retailer Migros Launches Bicycle Trade And Repair Chain

Migros Switzerland’s new chain for bicycle trade and repairs, Bike World, is set to open its first independent store in Volketswil, on 2 March 2017.

The Bike World store format includes an integrated workshop, for bicycle repairs and customisation.

Its retail range will include a large selection of bicycle brands and models, from BMX and mountain bikes to racing bikes and eBikes. The shops will also stock cycling wear and accessories.

Accessories such as saddles or handlebar-grips can be tried out on an in-store test track, and customers can avail of equipment such as a SmartFit device, to determine the most ergonomical frame size for their build.

Depending on the size of the store, each Bike World outlet will employ around eight to ten people, in sales or as expert bicycle mechanics at the workshops,  and offer training positions for aspiring mechanics.

Migros intends to expand the chain in the next five years, starting with two stores opening in Muri, near Bern, on 23 March and in Winterthur, on 30 March. An online shop will be launched in autumn 2017.
