Tesco Clubcard vouchers were the most popular items for sale on the 'dark net' recently, according to a report in the Guardian newspaper.
The Tor Network is a hidden network only accessible with the use of a specialist browser for protecting a user’s identity.
According to the report, Tesco Clubcard vouchers were the most popular items selling on the network's latest distribution platform, the Silk Road 2 website, recently.
The distribution platform contains offerings such as weapons and pornographic images.
The original Silk Road website was shut down by US authorities.
A seller, using the title Revivalry, offered vouchers valued at £100 for £43 ($61).
Buyers gave the seller positive ratings in their feedback on the website.
"I'm sure Tesco would notice if someone is ordering all their food with only 50-100 pound vouchers," wrote a buyer in an online forum.
"I bought £100 from Revivalry around Christmas time, it worked in store," wrote another on the chat site.
Commenting on the fraudulent sales of the vouchers, a spokesperson for Tesco said, “We have referred the matter to the police and will assist them with their inquiries.”
The retailer said that customers would not lose out as a result of the fraud.
