UK supermarket chain Tesco has announced plans to expand its self-scanning service to another 100 stores by the end of this year.
Tesco completed a roll-out of the retail technology to 200 stores over the past two years.
The supermarket retailer will now extend the roll-out of the self-scanning shopping hardware and software from technology providers Motorola and Re-Vision.
The 'Scan-as-you-shop' service is recognised for boosting customer loyalty.
The scanning technology involves Motorola MC17T mobile computers and Re-Vision My-Scan software.
The decision to proceed with the two technology suppliers was made “after considerable research into the solution”, said Sally Marriott, retail development IT director at Tesco.
"The value they bring to the project is in their expertise in personal shopping solution implementation and by a scalable, enterprise-class solution and experience in working with large retail organisations."
The self-scanning shopping concept was first introduced to Tesco customers in the spring of 2010.
According to analysis, the shopping service increases customer loyalty while promoting Tesco’s service-driven and customer-oriented philosophy.
