Tesco Trialling Mobile Payments Technology With PayQwiq App

British supermarket giant Tesco is trialling a mobile payments option that allows shoppers to pay for their groceries using their handsets.

Customers can also collect Clubcard points, via their smartphones, when paying for their shopping.

The PayQwiq app is now available at 16 Tesco Express stores across London and 26 Express, Metro and Superstore stores formats in Edinburgh.

However, only Tesco staff are taking part in the retail technology trial at present.

To access the innovative technology, staff members sign up with a Tesco online grocery account. By adding credit card details, they can then download the new app.

Having completed the scanning of groceries at the checkout, they can sign into the app with a pin code and choose a credit card for payment purposes.

A QR code then appears on the smartphone for scanning at the checkout to pay for the goods. Clubcard points are then added to the shopper's account.

The app can be used with all major credit card providers. It has a daily spending limit of £400.
