X5 Retail Group has announced that it has set up a new lab in a Perekrestok supermarket in Moscow to speed up the testing of new technologies.
The store, located in 8 Andropov Avenue, offers state-of-the-art technologies such as self-checkout systems, video monitoring to control queues, a self-scan system, and a click-and-collect point for orders placed on Perekrestok.ru.
The lab will enable the retailer to explore opportunities to improve the efficiency of existing technologies and test proprietary developments.
It is equipped to test new solutions on-site, verify compatibility with X5's existing IT landscape and ensure smooth deployment, the retailer added.
Denis Kharitonov, Head of IT and strategic projects at Perekrestok, said, "The new lab will enable us to test our ideas and solutions quickly and effectively and to accelerate the pace of deployment and scaling.
"Perekrestok is increasingly embracing innovation, with stores hosting a number of tech pilots that are intended to drive development of the supermarket format and create a new customer experience. We are open to trying and using developments from leading start-ups from around the world, as well as solutions from the X5 innovation funnel."
In October of 2018, X5 opened a 'lab store' in Moscow’s central administrative district, close to a Pyaterochka outlet, to test new technologies for enhancing the customer experience.
