Tesco Launches Private-Label Gadgets In Central Europe

Tesco has launched a low-cost tablet under its own brand, Op3n Dott. Sales started on 5 November in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Following the UK launch of Hudl 2 in October, Tesco has introduced its first tablet, smartphone and fitness band in Central Europe. Devices under the name Op3n Dott are supported by its global partners, such as Google and Intel.

“The Op3n Dott devices are designed for anyone looking for an affordable alternative, but does not want any compromise on design or performance," said Boris Zeman, the manager responsible for electronics at Tesco Stores SR.

From 5 November, customers in Slovakia can buy tablets or smartphones, each priced at €99.99. Fitness bands cost €59.99. Op3n Dott devices will be available in several versions. Tablets are black, white or bronze, smartphones are black, and fitness bands have eight different colour variations. The devices are equipped with accessories, such as wireless Bluetooth headphones for the tablet.

The tablet is powered by an Intel Atom dual core processor, which makes it one of the fastest devices in its category. Smartphones operate on the core processor with a frequency of 1.3 GHz. Both tablets and smartphones use the Google Android 4.4 operating system, which provides access to over one million applications on Google Play. Pre-installed applications include a bookstore, movies and games. As a bonus, Tesco offers free unlimited access to cloud storage for three months. The newly introduced fitness band tracks the intake of food and fluids, exercise and sleep.

"Customers are increasingly seeking stylish, high-performing technology that is affordable. We saw a great opportunity to partner with leading brands such as Intel and Google to create the Op3n Dott range of products, all of which have been developed with our Central European customers in mind," added Zeman.
