Tesco Trials In-Store Multichannel Kiosks

Tesco is to make its full F + F clothing range available in several stores UK, using new in-store multichannel kiosks.

The retailer is to introduce the service on a trial basis in its Coventry, Woolwich and Pitsea outlets, where shoppers can buy out-of-stock items or those unavailable in the store using the new kiosks.

Purchases can then be either collected from the store or delivered to customers' homes.

The new kiosks were developed by a consortium of technology companies, including kiosk designer Retec, network specialist Cisco and virtual mirror supplier C-instore.

The kiosks, which are chip and PIN-enabled, connect to Venda's software-as-a-service (Saas) eCommerce platform, which enables customers to purchase products, view stock availability and receive promotional offers relevant to their product searches.

Andrew Beale, head of multichannel and digital development, F&F Clothing at Tesco, said, “In a digital age we need to make technology work for our customers. We put the customer at the heart of everything we do and are always thinking about how to improve their experience and meet their needs.

“We recognised that it didn’t make sense for customers to interrupt their shopping experience if they can’t find what they’re looking for instore – having to search again for that item again online when they’re at home,” he said.

“The introduction of the instore technology effectively brought together our online and instore offering and allowed customers to make purchases instantly – even if their products weren’t immediately available,” added Beale.
