Tetra Pak Launches New Flexible Ice Cream Production Line

Packaging firm Tetra Pak has launched a new ice cream extrusion line, which it says will bring a rise in quality as well as volume flexibility for medium-capacity producers.

The new production line uses a horizontal cutter to slice the ice cream as it emerges from the extruder, which is able to maintain a consistently fast cutting speed, ensuring a clean cut.

In addition, the cutter can be programmed to work at different speeds, meaning that producers can switch between multiple products on the same line. As a result, the line has a capacity of between 5,000 and 18,000 products per hour.

Agile Response

“A surge in competition in the global ice cream market has increased pressure on medium-size producers,” said product manager Elsebeth Baungaard.

"They must be more agile in responding to consumer needs, producing greater varieties of products at smaller volumes, while maintaining a high-quality standard and low production costs. This line has been designed to meet exactly these requirements."

Elsewhere, she added that customers of the new line will be able to access Tetra Pak's Product Development Centre in Denmark for advice, training, and technical support.
