Aldi Launches Private Label Coffee Capsules In Spain

Aldi has entered the market for coffee capsules in Spain with its own brand, Markus. Starting this month, the German discounter will sell the range in its 260 supermarkets in the country, and customers will find them next to the traditional coffee options.

Alimarket.es reports that Aldi's capsules are compatible with Nespresso machines, and that they come in packs of 16 units at a retail price of €2.99.

The Markus range is comprised of four varieties: Ristretto, Espresso, Lungo and Descafeinado. The coffee's origin's is varied and the range includes beans from Latin America and Africa.

"To guarantee the standard of quality that the company pursues for all its products, the new coffee capsules Markus ensure the complete preservation of the aroma and flavour of the coffee they contain because they are hermetically sealed", explained Aldi's spokesperson.

In Spain, the coffee capsule category grew 10.5 per cent in volume and 8.2 per cent in value last year.
