Finland's Kesko Posts Sales Growth Of 4.2% In January

Finnish retailer Kesko has posted a 4.2% year-on-year increase in sales, to €843.5 million, in the month of January.

Comparable sales for continuing operations increased by 1.9% during this period.

Kesko's grocery trade division witnessed a comparable sales growth of 3.9% to €435.2 million.

Commenting on the company's performance, president and CEO of Kesko, Mikko Helander, said, "Sales grew in all divisions. In the grocery trade, sales grew in all chains, underpinned by growth in customer numbers."

Performance In Other Divisions

The company's building and technical division reported sales of €325.6 million in January, up 0.5% year-on-year in comparable terms.

The retailer's speciality goods trade saw a 28.3% decline in sales due to a mild winter in Finland.

Comparable sales in its car trade division fell 1.6% to €84.0 million during this period.

"Sales development was also good in the building and technical trade. In the car trade, sales were impacted by the acquisitions carried out in 2019," Helander added.
