FrieslandCampina To Boost Production Of VLOG Milk
FrieslandCampina has announced plans to increase the number of dairy farms supplying VLOG milk from 400 to more than 600.
The decision follows a sharp rise in demand in the German market.
VLOG or Verband Lebensmittel Ohne Gentechnik is a German association responsible for certifying and issuing the ‘Ohne Gentechnik’ label, used in certifying GMO-free ingredients for food production.
All VLOG milk produced by FrieslandCampina dairy farmers in the Netherlands is used to make cheese for the German market, the company said.
Participating dairy farmers also implement full outdoor grazing for livestock on their farms.
In Germany, more than 50% of the milk is produced according to the VLOG standard.
In the Netherlands, FrieslandCampina was the first dairy company to introduce VLOG standards to its operations, in 2017.
Dairy farms that adhere to the VLOG standard receive an extra reward of one cent per kilogram of milk in addition to an outdoor grazing premium.
The remaining value, through the performance payment, benefits all member dairy farmers and contributes to the investments in the various cheesemakers, the company said.
VLOG is in line with FrieslandCampina’s cooperative vision of ‘Merits of Milk’, which creates more value for members with a distinctive and progressive chain approach.
