Wine production in Germany grew 38% year on year to 1.03 billion litres in 2018, according to the country's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
Overall wine production was almost 19% higher when compared with the six-year average from 2012 to 2017, the data revealed.
White wine accounted for 66% the total wine production, while red wine production declined to 34%, from 39% in 2017.
Wine Categories
Prädikatswein, defined as 'superior quality wine', accounted for 37% or 380 million litres of the total production, according to a report in rundschau.de.
Qualitätswein, or quality wine from a specific region, claimed a 59% share of the total production, amounting to 600 million litres.
Pricing Changes
Consumer prices for grape wines increased 2.2% year on year in 2018, with consumers paying 2.8% more for white wine and 2.6% for red wine, the report said.
Sparkling wine and champagne saw a moderate price increase of 0.7%.
