Greenyard Raises Stake In Fruit Supplier Bardsley England
Greenyard Fresh UK has announced that it has reached an agreement to increase investment in Bardsley England, a producer and packer of premium apples and pears.
The move is aimed at strengthening Greenyard’s position in the UK, and will provide the business with a significant competitive advantage, in case of a hard Brexit, the company said.
Marc Zwaaneveld, co-CEO of Greenyard, commented, “This is a clear example of how harnessing knowledge within a modern and progressive company alongside growers, with a passion and the skill to deliver exceptional fruit, can deliver a product to fully meet [...] UK consumer needs through a transparent, vertically integrated and efficient supply chain.”
Bardsley England, the fifth-largest top fruit grower in the UK, aims to increase agricultural yield and improve its overall fruit quality and taste while ensuring sustainable returns to its growers.
Ben Bardsley, managing director of Bardsley England, explained, “Our ultimate goal is to automate our operations by 2023 and to extend the UK season, thanks to our innovative approach. This is going to be particularly important when a hard Brexit happens.”
“When combined with Greenyard Fresh UK’s recent AEO certification, we believe we are in a relatively unique position within the market,” Bardsley added.
Greenyard’s vision is to develop new and innovative business models, and both companies have estimated a greater market share and penetration in the next three to five years.
