Jumbo Opens New Distribution Centre For Flowers In Veghel

Dutch retail giant Jumbo has opened a new distribution centre for flowers in Veghel.

The 5,000 square-metre facility will enable the retailer to efficiently meet the growing demand for flowers.

The new facility will focus on the production of bouquets, the company said.

Jumbo sources flowers and plants directly from growers and the production of bouquets is carried out in-house.

'Good Relationship With Growers'

"We believe in a good relationship with our growers, who grow flowers and plants exclusively for Jumbo," said Bart Kemperman, manager with responsibility for flowers and plants at Jumbo.

“More than 80% of our supplies go through growers. This allows us to move faster from harvest to production and ultimately to sales in our stores."

The flowers are cut on a fully-automated conveyor and then processed by hand into bouquets.
