Migros To Launch Plastic Packaging Collection Project

Swiss retailer Migros has announced plans to launch a new project to facilitate the collection of plastic packaging from customers for recycling.

The initiative, scheduled to be launched on 29 June at the Migros Cooperative in Lucerne, will see the introduction of the Migros plastic collection bags.

The collection bags will be available in three sizes, priced between CHF 0.90 and CHF 2.50.

Customers will use the bag to return plastic packaging from their homes to collection points set up in Migros stores.

The retailer will also offer take-back points for returning plastic packaging.

Migros plans to extend the project to the cooperatives of Geneva, Neuchâtel-Freiburg, Vaud, and Valais at the end of August.

However, the decision will depend on the response the project receives in Lucerne.

Project Partner

The retailer has partnered with the Swiss plastic recycling company InnoRecycling on the project.

The plastic collected from stores will be sorted by InnoRecycling and recycled by InnoPlastics to produce packaging material for the retailer.

The move will enable Migros to reduce the use of virgin plastics in its operations and help achieve its goal of switching to 100% recycled plastic packaging.
