Unicoop Tirreno Partners With MyFoody To Combat Food Waste

Italian regional grocery retailer Unicoop Tirreno has teamed up with Milan-based start-up MyFoody to fight food waste.

The MyFoody app, which is free for download on iPhone and Android devices, offers consumers the opportunity to view products that have a discount of 50% because they are close to expiration or have aesthetic defects.

The offers are updated in real-time, so users always find out which products are available at the point of sale. Additionally, users can opt to receive notifications as soon as new offers are available.

After initially launching in four Coop and Intercoop stores in Rome Laurentino, Civitavecchia, Viterbo and Colleferro, the project will be extended to the entire network in the Lazio region in 2018.

Unicoop Tirreno has 104 stores in the Lazio, Tuscany, Umbria and Campania regions.
