Vegetable Prices Increase By 6.4% In Italy: Coldiretti

The price of vegetables increased by 6.4% in Italy in January, compared to the same month the previous year.

This is according to Italian farmers association Coldiretti, based on the latest Istat inflation data for the month of January.

According to Coldiretti, the inflation is due to unstable weather, which has affected crops and decreased availability on the markets.

A 'fake spring' at the start of the year started the growing process early, and left crops more exposed to the subsequent cold weather.

Climate change is disrupting the normal seasonal cycles in Italy, Coldiretti said, which affects both the economy and consumers, who have to deal with anomalous fluctuations in product pricing.
