Waitrose Goes Green With Private Label Veggie Yoghurt Line

UK retailer Waitrose has decided to take advantage of the increased popularity of healthy eating by creating a private label vegetable-flavoured yoghurt line.

Singled out as an upcoming trend in the food industry in the retailer's Food&Drink report last year, the 'green' yoghurt fad was originally kick-started in the US.

The new yoghurt range has created some interesting mash-ups with ingredients such butternut squash, avocado, carrot, and beetroot, paired with ginger, guarana, and matcha green tea.

The retailer said that these products will remedy the lack of Vitamin D in people's diets to keep bones, teeth and muscles in good shape. One serving contains nearly a fifth of the average person's daily allowance.

Waitrose yoghurt buyer, Melissa Spiro, commented: "Ingredients such as butternut squash and beetroot are not normally found in the yogurt aisle so we can’t wait to hear what our customers think.

"Our aim when developing these yoghurts was to use popular vegetables that are naturally beneficial to everyday health and wellbeing. Vegetable-based smoothies are now mainstream and we anticipate the trend for this type of yoghurt to follow suit."
