Waitrose Introduces Organic Halloumi Cheese

UK retailer Waitrose has announced that it is the first supermarket chain in the country to introduce organic halloumi, which it has launched under its Duchy Organic private-label range.

Waitrose says that sales of this cheese are up by 24% year on year, making it a mainstream grocery option.

“Halloumi continues to have its moment in the limelight," said Chris Dawson, cheese buyer at Waitrose.

"Fans of this ever-popular cheese can now choose organic, with our Waitrose Duchy Organic halloumi. Like our other halloumis, it is made the traditional way, in Cyprus, but using organic milk from cows, goats and sheep.”

Watirose's cheese range now includes eight different types of halloumi, which are all suitable for grilling and frying, according to the retailer.

The new organic halloumi will join the Duchy Organic own-brand range, which already includes organic feta, cottage cheese, Stilton, cheddar, Red Leicester and Double Gloucester.

Each portion costs £3.25 and has been available since 6 October, in all Waitrose stores and online.
