Waitrose Posts 0.5% Increase In Sales Last Week
UK retailer Waitrose has announced that its total sales last week, excluding fuel, were 0.5% higher than the same period last year.
The retailer attributed the marginal growth to ‘cooler weather influencing shopping compared to warmer temperatures a year ago’.
Sales of cold weather foods experienced an increase last week. In particular, sales of soup grew by 23%, stocks and gravy by 18%, and meat accompaniments by 20%.
The company also saw a 7% rise in the number of people heading to Waitrose cafes for food and drink.
Waitrose posted a 23% rise in sales of spirits. Last week the retailer announced that its gin sales had overtaken other spirits. Its craft beer sales also grew by 11%.
