Waitrose Sales Increase 6.1%, Boosted By Good Weather

UK retailer Waitrose has announced that its total sales last week, excluding fuel, were up 6.1% on the same period last year, boosted by the good weather in the country.

In its weekly trade update, the retailer reported that sales of Rosé wine were up by 108%, ‘helped by the timing of a 25% off three bottles of wine promotion’.

It also said that cider sales increased by 36%, spirits increased by 27%, and beer by 22%.

Popular Summer Trends

As temperatures soared around the UK, Waitrose said that barbecue food was ‘unsurprisingly popular’, with sales jumping by 114%. Accompaniments such as quiches (+38%), dips (+23%) and salads (+12%) also saw an increase.

Fresh produce also benefited from the good weather, experiencing an increase of 7.5%. Sales of melons (+33%) and strawberries (+18%) and cooler bags (+78%) also benefitted from the hotter days.
