Walmart Opens Large-Scale E-Commerce Supply-Chain Hub In California

Walmart has opened a 1.2-million-square-foot e-commerce logistics centre in Chino, California, which will act as a supply-chain hub for other fulfilment centres that the retailer operates in the area.

The plant is the fourth large-scale logistics hub that Walmart has opened in the US, the most recent being in Georgia.

Regarding the Chino facility, Phil Herr, e-commerce logistics engineer for Walmart, said in a company-produced video, "We’ve invested a significant amount to put a lot of outbound processing horsepower within these facilities and minimise our labour costs to reduce the amount of time it takes to get those orders to our customers."

Craig Rosenblum, grocery-retail commentator and partner with consulting company Willard Bishop, commented to DailyBulletin.com, "It’s [successful e-commerce] all about logistical efficiency and the vision of being within five miles of 80 per cent of the population. They can do it cost-effectively and as efficiently as possible."
