X5, Rosneft Explore Pyaterochka Forecourt Concept

Russia’s X5 Retail Group is reportedly looking at rolling out a series of Pyaterochka stores at petrol stations operated by the Rosneft Group.

Lebensmittel Zeitung, quoting Russian news source RBK.ru, said that the group has already opened a pilot store near Smirnovka in the Moscow region, ahead of a wider rollout.

Wide Scope

Oil company Rosneft operates around 2,900 petrol stations around Russia, of which around 1,900 feature stores, and 925 feature cafes. The group posted RUB 75 billion worth of non-fuel sales in 2016, of which coffee accounted for RUB 2.1 billion.

“Russia’s multi-format market leader is progressively updating its key banners to reflect market changes,” said Sebastian Rennack of LZ Retailytics.

“The latest Pyaterochka minimarket concept has been rolled out, the regional model for Perekrestok supermarkets is being expanded, and a decision regarding Karusel hypermarkets’ final concept changes is expected at the turn of the year. This leaves the forecourt and convenience formats poised to gain importance at the start of economic recovery.”
