Campaign For Better Regulation Of E-Cigarettes Launched

A new initiative, 'Vaping is NOT Tobacco', which seeks to promote better regulation of e-cigarettes by illustrating the health differences between vaping and smoking, has been launched in Europe.

The campaign is built on both the European Citizens' Initiative (Europäische Bürgerinitiative - EBI) 'Let's demand smarter vaping regulation' and a grassroots campaign encouraging citizens to get in touch with their national candidates for the European Parliament elections

EBI is an online petition launched by a citizens' committee of people from Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, the Czech Republic, the UK and Romania.

'Vaping is NOT Tobacco' is aimed the 17 million people who currently vape across Europe, as well as at those that support evidence-based regulation of the sector.

According to the British Royal College of Physicians and the government agency Public Health England, e-cigarettes are at least 95% less harmful than common cigarettes.

Moreover, e-cigarettes are regulated as tobacco products even though they don't contain any tobacco, which is why the initiative is calling for separate rules for e-cigarettes.

"With this petition we want to reach everyone who thinks that e-cigarettes can help people stop smoking", said Dustin Dahlmann, the spokesman for 'Vaping is Not Tobacco'. "With broad support from the initiative we can launch an attempt to initiate a reform of EU legislation, which currently doesn't appreciate the value of e-cigarettes."
