Rewe Plans Revamp For Penny Chain

The Rewe Group is planning to invest €150 million in 2012 to improve the layout of its Penny discount supermarkets in Germany.

The German group plans to refurbish 800 of its 2,400 Penny shops, according to reports. The company plans to close around 100 underperforming outlets. The stores have reduced overall profit for the chain. It may close additional stores during the year.

The company will also launch a new Penny red and white logo during the spring. (1 Jan)
