Heavy discounter Lidl are to become the first supermarket chain in Portugal to offer contactless payment at the point of sale.
Trade magazine Distribuicao Hoje reported that Lidl will test the payment method in just a few stores initially, and if successful roll it out across its entire network in Portugal.
At the moment, only Lidl stores in the UK offer a contactless payment method. Lidl say that they will become the first retailer in Portugal to use the technology.
"The pilot project will be tested in some stores, and should be extended to all stores in Portugal," a spokesperson told Distribuicao Hoje.
