Upmarket grocer Waitrose has signed an exclusive partnership with Hiku to launch the scanning device in Britain.
The technology, developed by the Silicon Valley-based company, allows customers to scan Waitrose barcodes at home and add them to their online shopping baskets.
The Hiku scanning device comes with voice recognition technology.
Shoppers can also use the Hiku app on their smartphones mobiles to scan products while in a store.
According to Waitrose, customers will want to use the Hiku scanner at home with its ability to scans barcodes four times faster than using an app on a mobile device.
Waitrose staff will carry out trials using the innovative device with customer trials to take place at home early next year.
For those wishing to take part in the trial, they can sign up on the Hiku website.
Waitrose is introducing the Hiku technology as part of its Hot Ideas programme.
