Carrefour Spain Holds Sustainability Forum In Spain’s Fishery Ministry

Carrefour Spain has chaired its inaugural Sustainable Fishery Forum, an event that created dialogue on the subject of sustainable and ecologically-responsible fish supply chains, which involved Spain’s general fishery secretariat, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, environmental group Oceania, as well as leading fish food companies such as such as Pescanova and Puerto Celeiro.

The event, which was held in the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery, Food and the Environment, offered the retailer an opportunity to showcase its policies on responsible fishing. Discussions on how to inform consumers about the sustainability of fish products, and on the ‘actions in the three axes of sustainability,’ were also organised.

Representing Carrefour Spain at the meeting were present Arturo Molinero, its human resources and external relations director; María Quintín, its corporate social responsibility and environment director; and Mariano Rodríguez, its quality and sustainable development director.

‘Because of its diversity and quantity, the fisheries sector constitutes a major challenge in terms of sustainability, and Carrefour therefore works on requirements such as traceability, selection of fishing grounds, respect for minimum sizes and promotion of local fisheries,' the company said in a statement.
