Ahold's Bol.com Introduces TV Shopping

Bol.com now allows customers to make purchases using their televisions. The new system, which Bol.com describes as the 'next step in e-commerce', works with LG's Smart TV platform app and allows customers to order non-food items from home using their smart TV. 

According to the online retailer, almost half of the 1.5 million televisions sold in the Netherlands this year will be smart TVs. Further to that, with the Dutch population watching an average of three hours of TV a day, the retailer believes that the new e-tailing format has a huge amount of portential, according to Michel Schaeffer, marketing director at Bol.com.

French Hulshof, commercial director at LG said, "We are excited about the next step in smart TV that we have made together with Bol.com", adding that the new LG system "gives a new dimension to online shopping". (24 June)
