Carrefour has opened a store dedicated to organic products under the 'Carrefour Bio' banner, according to LSA. The store on Boulevard Diderot in Paris opened its doors on Wednesday (20 March) and has a sales area of 170 square meters (1,829 square feet).
The store's product offering of 2,000 SKUs is made up of organic fruit and vegetables, which it hopes to source locally, bread, fresh meat and its private label organic products.
As is fitting with a 'bio' format, the store uses eco-friendly refrigerators and chilled units that reduce energy consumption with features such as closed doors on cold storage units and LED lighting. As part of its commitment to a more environmentally-friendly store, Carrefour Bio offers recyclable plastic bags and reusable cotton shopping bags and paper bags for fruit and vegetables. In an effort to reduce packaging, shoppers can also buy in bulk from the store. (22 March)
