Carrefour Belgium Opens Two More In-Hospital ‘Express’ Stores

Carrefour Belgium has taken the number of convenience outlets it operates in hospitals to four, with two new openings this month.

Almost a decade ago it opened its first hospital Express shop in the Hôpital Public de Liège, while a second began trading in 2016 within the Brugmann University Hospital in Brussels.

On 1 March 2017 the French retail chain unveiled two more Express stores, in the Tivoli University Hospital in La Louvière, and in Courtrai (north Belgium).

The new convenience shops offer pre-cooked meals, meat, fish, poultry, as well as fresh produce (including organic SKUs). Carrefour says ‘all the grocery "essentials" and an assortment of Carrefour brand and national brand products for emergency purchases’ are also available.

These SKUs are complemented by a hospital-tailored bespoke offering – gifts, newspapers, flowers, chocolates, toys, areas to make freshly-squeezed orange juice, and a ‘well-stocked household product section' to purchase necessary toiletries.

‘This convenience store really is the perfect answer to the needs of patients staying in the hospital, their visitors, nurses, doctors, the administrative staff, teachers and students at the site, and people living locally can even use it for emergency purchases,’ the supermarket chain adds.
