Iceland Joint MD Nick Canning Resigns

Nick Canning, joint managing director of UK frozen food retailer Iceland, has resigned from his position, according to Retail Week.

Chief executive Malcolm Walker told staff in an internal memo that Canning was leaving to grocer to "seek a fresh challenge", after almost 15 years with the business.

His departure follows a series of management changes at Iceland earlier this year, including the appointment of finance director Tarsem Dhaliwal as group managing director.

Strategic Initiatives

Iceland has been continuing with its turnaround plan, and in June the company posted a 2% increase in like-for-like sales for its full year 2017.

“The set of strategic initiatives we began in 2015, with the aim of differentiating Iceland, changing consumer perceptions and so restoring growth to our business, bore fruit in the year under review,” Walker said at the time.

“Like-for-like sales performance improved throughout the year to make us one of the UK’s fastest-growing food retailers by year end."
