CDiscount (of Groupe Casino) is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its annual wine fair.
The retailer has styled itself as the leading distributor of seconds vins, which are wines made from cuvées not selected for use in grands vins (or first-label wines).
Casino was quick off the mark in doing this when Asian money began to inflate the market drastically between 2009 and 2010; Chinese buyers in particular snapped up the grands crus of Bordeaux.
This year CDiscount will sell approximately 200 kinds of seconds vins, of which the gems include that of Haut-Médoc Sociando-Mallet, L’Orangerie de Rouillac, and Héritage de Chasse-Spleen respectively.
What Casino has done of significance in this regard is that it has made vintages of 2005 to 2013 available from a more ubiquitous, less specialised source than they were in the past.
The price range spans from €12 to €40.
