Languedoc Region Leads French Wine Exports

According to figures released last week by the trade body, the Conseil interprofessionnel des Vins du Languedoc, Languedoc (CIVL) came top of the list for wine export volumes in France during 2013.

The CIVL said that producers in the southern Languedoc region exported almost 3.37 million hectoliters of wine last year, more than any other area in France.

However, this figure does represent a decline of 1.5% from a year earlier. CIVL said that Languedoc wines accounted for around a quarter of all French wine exports, but its share in value terms was only 10%.

In 2013, more than 449 million bottles of wine were exported with a turnover of €745 million.

The region's harvest totaled 13.5 million hectoliters in 2013, which represents a rise of 5.7% on the year previous. It also makes up 5% of the world's production.
