Equity Firm Buys Johnnie Walker Bottler Allied Glass

The maker of bottles for Johnnie Walker and Macallan whiskey has changed hands for more than £120 million.

Packaging firm Allied Glass has been bought by the private equity firm CBPE, the second time it has backed the company.

In 2002, it acquired the business from Associated British Foods, selling it eight years later to fellow investment firm Equistone for £75 million. However, it has now bought it back, hoping to cash in on the growing demand for expensive spirits across the world. The £120 million paid for Allied Glass, is understood to include debt.

Allied Glass also produces packaging for other brands such as Lea & Perrins Sauces. It has two factories- one in Leeds and one in Knottingly- and employs more than 660 workers.
