Spar Thailand Sees Rapid Expansion In First Year

Spar Thailand is continuing with its national expansion programme, one year after the brand first launched in the country.

Today, the group operates 26 Spar stores, 18 of which were opened between October 2016 and the middle of 2017, while the remaining eight were opened in the second half of this year.

Two of these are standalone stores, and the other 24 are Spar petrol forecourt locations, all operated by the Bangchak Retail Company.

The retailer says that the focus of all its stores in Thailand is convenience, offering a combination of locally and internationally-sourced Spar branded products, as well as national brands.

To date, Spar Thailand has process 4.5 million consumer transactions across its store network.

Future Expansion

In 2018, Spar Thailand plans to open approximately 30 more stores, with a focus on rolling out a network of convenience and neighbourhood outlets.

Looking further ahead, the retailer aims to open between 50 and 80 new stores each year for the next five years, creating up to 2,500 jobs, and generated an estimated retail sales turnover of €245 million by 2020.
